Why do people think that Texans are so hypocritical?

Me and my mom and brothers think that ity is just a sin like the things we might do. Alot of people in my school are cool with gay people, some of the people in my school are gay even. There is this girl in my cl who admitted to being a phobic, which I thought was a bit much. Saying it like that's a good thing... But most of the people here are nice, loving people.
