How do I change the battery on a 2001 Yamaha Vino?

I removed the battery, but the connector inside the rectangular plastic container it fit in wobbles all around making me unable to push the battery into proper position and connect the battery terminals. The connector inside the box will not pull out far enough for me to make the connection outside the box.
